Second Quarter:
* Might be worth noting that “Mr. Big Leg” Cairo Santos didn’t get his kickoff as deep as Succop did.
* Ron Parker looked bad again on a deep ball where he made NO attempt to play the ball and got flagged for pass interference. This was one of the flags that was not up for dispute.
* On the first Jonathan Stewart TD run, Jaye Howard had great penetration into the backfield. He has really proved something to me in the first two preseason games. I wasn’t sure he’d make the team, but he’s a lock and appears to be ahead of Vance Walker at this point. While Howard looked good on that play, DJ missed a tackle and Poe was pushed out of the play. Hopefully those things won’t happen very often.
* Junior Hemingway was dinged up again after missing a lot of time during training camp. If healthy, I think he’s a lock to make the team because of his special teams play and blocking, but with a couple of other young guys making a push he needs to be able to stay on the field.
* In case you haven’t noticed, DeAnthony Thomas is fast.
* Sean Smith had trouble keeping up with Kelvin Benjamin and Jason Avant. That’s not good. The Chiefs are going to face better wideouts this season and the coverage of the CBs looks like it could be an issue.
* I do like what I’m seeing from Chris Owens. He’s feisty in coverage and it looks like he can be a real threat on CB blitzes.
* Seriously, stop calling screen plays.
* Eric Fisher may file assault charges against Greg Hardy after the game because this is a beating.
* Luke Kuechly is really good at football. Knile Davis trying to block him on that blitz was sad, he definitely didn’t meet Jamaal Charles “three second rule” for pass protection.
* It looked to me that on the second Stewart TD run KC was still in base defense instead of bringing in their goal line group. I only counted three defensive linemen. Not sure what the thinking there was, possibly based of the personnel that Carolina had on the field?
On to the third quarter…….
