4. Wide Receivers Race Heats Up
Junior Hemingway, A.J. Jenkins, and Mark Harrison all returned to practice today after missing time with their hamstring injuries and the Chiefs threw them all back into the fire. Hemingway in particular was thrown into the slot role and was worked hard.
Trying to figure out how the Chiefs wide receiver situation is going to play out is difficult but it seems the Chiefs want to give Hemingway every opportunity to make the roster and use him in the slot role. His size gives and physical nature give the Chiefs a different element to their offense, especially in the red zone, so the appeal make sense. The question is whether or not the roster space is there for him to make the team.
Between Dwayne Bowe, Donnie Avery (who missed practice for personal reasons today), A.J. Jenkins, Albert Wilson, and Kyle Wilson, the Chiefs may only have one spot left on the roster for a wide receiver. And if De’Anthony Thomas is getting more looks at wide receiver then one would think the odds of the Chiefs keeping seven receivers just took a hit. This means the competition between Hemingway, Harrison, and Weston Dressler is going to be a tight one. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
