Defensive-minded fans and analysts may have been looking at the Chiefs’ 41-39 victory over the Bengals as something of a puke fest. Sloppy, full of bad decisions and poor execution.
For one player, Thursday night was an actual puke fest.
Bengals quarterback Matt Scott is fighting for a roster spot either on the Bengals practice squad or on someone else’s team, and it all seemed to catch up with him last night. Good news for him is that he knows how to bounce back. On a fourth-quarter play with time winding down, Scott puked twice while making his pre-snap read before tossing a touchdown pass.
One can consider this the definition of ‘puke and rally.’ How I missed this live last night, I do not know. Maybe it was because I was too busy watching De’Anthony Thomas’ punt return on loop. You’ve got to hand it to the kid for sticking in there and staying focused even when the anxiety and adrenaline had to be at full blast.
Scott finished the night with two touchdown passes and 68 yards rushing. After literally seeing his guts, I’d think the kid deserves a roster spot somewhere.
