SPECIAL TEAMS

Long Snapper: Thomas Gafford

Kicker: Cairo Santos

Punter: Dustin Colquitt

Cut: Ryan Succop

Returners: Knile Davis, De’Anthony Thomas, Albert Wilson

Cairo Santos has a huge leg, that’s for certain. He made every short and medium range kick I saw him take a practice on Saturday and has been just as accurate as Succop in those situations through two weeks of practice. With that base, he throws down his trump card on Succop with several successful kicks from beyond 50 yards.

Santos can be a weapon.

However, like with several other players in this initial prediction, Santos is going to have to win his spot by making his attempts in the preseason games. Should he get the yips then Succop wins the battle running away.

But Santos is the kind of guy the Chiefs need to make this team because of the extra value he can bring to the field. His ability to kick field goals from distance in addition to sending kickoff out of the back of the endzone changes the dynamic of the team’s special teams unit. If you think the Chiefs special teams unit was dangerous last year, imagine having bigger weapons in the return game and having a kicker with a big enough leg to hit 60 yard field goals. It’s a game changer.

There you have it, the initial roster predictions ahead of the first preseason game. Have at it in the comments.
