Stock Up: Kyle Williams
Stock Down: Weston Dressler

There have been multiple reports coming out of camp that Kyle Williams has looked good and has a good chance to make the 53 man roster this season. I will admit that I wasn’t really a believer in Williams. On the other end of the spectrum, I bought into some of the offseason hype on Weston Dressler and thought he was likely to make the team as a slot WR. After watching one day of practice I’m ready to change my vote.

Let’s start with Dressler. There’s no nice way to say this……the guy just doesn’t look like a NFL player. There are a lot of small players that have had successful NFL careers. In fact, DeAnthony Thomas (who I’ll discuss later) is small by NFL standards but still looks the part. Dressler looks like a middle school kid trying to play with a varsity high school team. Look at Dressler (No. 13) in the photo above. See what I mean? The fact that he’s also currently running behind guys like Williams, AJ Jenkins, Junior Hemingway, and rookie Albert Wilson is not a good sign. I now think Dressler is a long shot at best to make the Chiefs.

Williams on the other hand, looks the part of a typical slot WR. He was coming off of surgery last season and to my eye he looks noticeably faster, both straight ahead and in and out of his breaks this year. With both Hemingway and Jenkins out with hamstrings on Saturday, Williams appeared to be the clear #3 WR after Dwayne Bowe and Donnie Avery. I’ll be keeping a close eye on Williams in the preseason games.

Side Note: Albert Wilson also looks good and is a similar player to Williams. I think Williams has the advantage over Wilson with his experience in the system. Look for Wilson to likely end up on the practice squad.
