4. Secondary Had A Decent Day
Look, there was no contact allowed in today’s practice and the quarterbacks had about 10 minutes to throw each pass, so conditions were not great for the secondary players to have a highlight kind of day. With that said, they did hold their own pretty well today.
Marcus Cooper left practice shortly after it began with an aggravation to his hamstring injury. Sean Smith took his place with the starting group and paired with Ron Parker. Parker had himself a pretty solid day in the 11-on-11 drills from my vantage point, and Smith intercepted a pass from Alex Smith during 11-on-11.
Chris Owens stood out as a pest in the slot positions. He’s a feisty guy who seems to cause some havoc for the opposition. Additionally, he brings an aggressive attitude to a defense that really lacks ‘violent’ players when it comes to on-field personality. Owens started camp by trying to pick a fight with Rodney Hudson. It should be noted Owens is listed at 5-9, 180. His aggressiveness seems to be infectious and that’s a good thing.
Considering Eric Berry was out -Andy Reid said he plans to be super cautions with Berry even though his injury is not considered to serious – Cooper was out, and half the players in the secondary are trying figure out what they are suppose to be doing within the scheme, I’d say they held their own pretty decently.
I’m still terrified about them, though.
