Special Teams Coordinator Dave Toub

Perhaps the most coveted coach to join the Chiefs in 2013 was Dave Toub. Toub consistently had one of the better special teams in the NFL, and he brought that attitude with him when he came to Kansas City.

Kansas City, like most of the other coordinator positions had some talent on the team, they just need Toub to coach them up. The Chiefs broke the single season average kick off returns with 29.9 yard per attempt, a stat that went unnoticed as the Chiefs lost in the playoffs. However the results that Toub was able to produce was extremely impressive, with the fact that they seem to keep moving the ball closer to the 50 on kickoffs, being able to have good numbers on the kickoff is important.

There are not a lot of flaws in his system. The biggest one would be the way players think they need to take the ball out of the back of the end zone every time. However the biggest return in Chiefs history came from Knile Davis taking the ball 108 yards against Denver.

2014 looks to be much of the same. With the addition of speedster De’Anthony Thomas, Toub still has a crew of solid players to keep that special team, well special. It will be interesting to see how takes a majority of the kickoff’s and punt returns in 2014, but one can be assured if it is anything like 2013 we are in for some fireworks.

Well there you have is addicts. The coaches that make the Chiefs tick. Now I know there are many more coaches out there as part of the team, each one important and vital to the Chiefs. As we get ready for training camp, everyone reports Wednesday, I can’t wait to see what is in store for the Chiefs in 2014.
