Who will win the right guard job and will he deserve it?

It would seem the competition for the starting right guard will come down to two players: Rishaw Johnson and Zach Fulton. Johnson has more experience and familiarity with the offense while Fulton has the potential to be a longterm solution for the Chiefs.

Ideally Fulton wins the job because of upside but with all of the unknowns along the offensive line Johnson may be the safer pick. Should they “tie” one would think Johnson would win the tie-breaker because of his experience and knowledge of the offense.

What matters most though is the position is won because of excellent performance. Someone is going to “win” the job because the Chiefs have to play a right guard. But just because a job is won it does not mean it has been earned. If the Chiefs are in a position where they are assigning a starting gig to Fulton or Johnson because someone has to play the position or because of an injury then there is reason for a lot of concern.
