Was Jamaal Charles the best player in the NFL in 2013? Well the ESPY’s think he’s at least in the top five.

ESPN announced today the nominees for their 2014 version of the ESPY’s and Kansas City’s elite running back made the cut for the best player in the NFL. Charles is up against Peyton Manning, LeSean McCoy, Russell Wilson, and Luke Kuechly for the award, which you can vote for here.

There is no doubt Charles was amazing last season, and one could make a strong argument he should have been the MVP of the NFL. Where would the Chiefs have been if Charles was not on this team?

Charles accumulated 1,980 yards from scrimmage (1,287 rushing, 693 receiving) with 19 total touchdowns. Had he played the final game of the season he would likely have become the 10th player ever to accumulate 2,000 yards from scrimmage and 20 touchdowns in a single season, and the first to do it since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006.

One would have to assume Manning is in the driver’s seat for winning the award, but Charles has just as good of a case as anyone for this award. Take this as your cue to start voting – early and often.
