It is official: Dee Ford is the Kansas City Chiefs first round pick, and that may not be sitting well with Tamba Hali. Minutes after the selection of Ford and the Twitters went ablaze, Hali fired off these consecutive retweets.
Has a message been sent to Hali or is this Hali using some social media vitriol as extra motivation for the offseason?
What we do know is Hali’s career is on the downward slide simply because he is not getting any younger. This was noticeable in the second half of last season after Justin Houston went down and Hali had to take the brunt of the opposition’s pass protection. There was little doubt the Chiefs needed to add some extra pass rush to the defense during the draft. Doing so in the first round says how important it is to Bob Sutton’s scheme.
The only way Kansas City will be successful in 2014 on defense is if Hali, Houston, and now Ford can bring constant pressure off the edge. Having a motivate Hali isn’t going to hurt that cause.
