Mid And Late Round Targets

The following are a couple of prospects that I’m hoping that KC may target in the mid to late rounds at different positions of need.

Wide Receiver

Paul Richardson – Colorado – 6’0″ – 175 lbs – 4.40 forty
Robert Herron – Wyoming – 5’9″ – 193 lbs – 4.37 forty

These two are a couple of mid round WR options that could help KC stretch the field. Richardson is more of a lean straight ahead flier while Herron is built more like a RB. Both men have some flaws to their game, but their speed and explosiveness is undeniable. If KC misses out on Odell Beckham Jr. and Brandin Cooks these guys may be the best options available to take the top off a defense in round three.

Offensive Line

Billy Turner – North Dakota State – 6’5″ – 315 lbs – 4.95 forty – 25 bench
Dakota Dozier – Furman – 6’4″ – 313 lbs – 5.35 forty – 23 bench

John Dorsey and Andy Reid both have a track record of taking athletic former college tackles and turning them into successful NFL guards. These two small school LTs look like prime candidates to follow that same path in the NFL. The reason I like them as possible targets is that they could compete for a starting guard spot and provide some much needed depth at OT as well.

Defensive Line

Taylor Hart – Oregon – 6’6″ – 281 lbs – 4.86 forty – 23 bench
Daniel McCullers – Tennessee – 6’7″ – 352 lbs – 5.30 forty – 27 bench

These two could add some much needed size and depth to the defensive line rotation. Hart is a moderate athlete who excels due to effort and smarts. He’s an ideal base 3-4 DE with a little bit of pass rush upside. McCullers is an intriguing massive NT prospect. He could give Dontari Poe some much needed rest in rotation to keep him fresh for pushing the pocket on passing downs. KC could even slide Poe to DE on clear running downs and have a scary front three against the run with Mike DeVito, McCullers, and Poe.

Outside Linebacker

Aaron Lynch – South Florida – 6’5″ – 249 lbs – 4.69 forty – 18 bench
Howard Jones – Shepherd – 6’3″ – 235 lbs – 4.60 forty – 21 bench

I actually don’t love any of the mid to late round OLB prospects as real plausible replacements for Tamba Hali. If I were to pick two that at least peaked my interest it would be Lynch and Jones. Lynch looked like a future top pick at Notre Dame before taking a year off to transfer and then not looking like the same player at South Florida. If an NFL team could find the player he was at ND he could be a steal. Jones played at a very small school but put up some crazy stats and seems to have some physical upside. He would be a long term project but worthy of a 6th round pick.

Defensive Back

Antone Exum – Virginia Tech – 6’0″ – 213 lbs – 4.53 forty
Marqueston Huff – Wyoming – 5’11” – 196 lbs – 4.49 forty

I really like both of these mid round options as possible alternatives to taking Jimmie Ward in the first round. Both Exum and Huff are college players that excelled at playing both CB and S. They would both make solid free safeties but have the man coverage skills to play CB if needed. They are both physical DBs that aren’t afraid to make a tackle, which is something the KC secondary has been sorely lacking on the back end. While neither player is on Ward’s level, either of them should be a noticeable upgrade over the departed Kendrick Lewis.

So there you go Addicts, my Armchair Addict Guide to the NFL Draft. You have some pieces to refer back to, some first round prospects, and some mid to late round prospects. If you’d like any more info on any of these guys, let me know in the comments below. I can’t recommend Loyko’s and Brugler’s Draft Guides enough. They are a great resource for die hard draft fans. So feel free to let me know what you think in the comments. Am I crazy for thinking that KC could go Jimmie Ward over Calvin Pryor in the first round? Would you throw something at the TV if they took Gabe Jackson with their first pick? One way or another the actual draft is almost here and the time for speculation is almost over.

WOO HOO!!!!
