SPECIAL TEAMS:

December 15, 2013; Oakland, CA, USA; Kansas City Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop (6) is congratulated by punter Dustin Colquitt (2) for kicking a point-after-touchdown against the Oakland Raiders during the first quarter at O.co Coliseum. Mandatory Credit: Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Players Currently On The Roster:

Ryan Succop
Dustin Colquitt
Thomas Gafford

I’m going to cut this one short and skip the questions here. The Chiefs are just fine at kicker, punter, and their long snapper. The only real question mark with special teams is who is going to pick up the return duties with the loses of Dexter McCluster and Quintin Demps. While KC has some options on the roster (Davis, McKnight, Dressler) don’t be surprised if one of KC’s draft picks (likely a WR) has some kick/punt return potential.

I’m not even going to bother with a rating here, just know that KC is set at the kicking spots but may target a prospect that can fill another need plus has return abilities.

CONCLUSION:

So here is where we stand in terms of positions of need going into the draft:

Wide Receiver: 10
Safety: 10
Guard: 9
Tackle: 8
Defensive Line: 7
Cornerback: 5
Linebacker: 4
Quarterback: 3
Tight End: 3 (unless Kelce isn’t healthy)
Running Back: 2 (unless Davis isn’t healthy)
Center: 1

So as I see it, KC must add a WR and a safety in the draft if they don’t want to have to sign another free agent before the season begins. The other focus is adding more starting caliber players to the offensive and defensive lines. Those are the clear top priorities. After that it just becomes a matter of adding players at the other positions that they feel are great value at those draft slots.

Would you agree?

Do I have the positions rated about right in your opinion? Is something rated too high? Is there a position that you would rate significantly higher? I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments below.

The countdown to the draft is on. I’ll be back next week with my final predictions.

Until then, thanks for reading and GO CHIEFS!!!!!!!!
