NFL Combine Summary
Running Backs
Dri Archer – Running Back – Kent State
Dri Archer (5’8 – 173) is the first prospect in quite some time to have Chris Johnson nervous about his combine record. As many of you may know, Johnson holds the record for fastest forty time at the NFL Combine with a time of 4.24 seconds. Archer was clocked at 2.26 and even prompted a tweet from Johnson that stated he was nervous. Archer also showed excellent change of direction and loose hips. Archer is certainly not a running back that you would consider carrying the entire load for a team but would be more along the lines of a Dexter McCluster type player. Expect Archer to come off the board in the fourth or fifth round and expect him to be used on reverses, bubble screens, and plays of that nature.
Jerick McKinnon – Running Back – Georgia Southern
Jerick McKinnon (5’9 – 209) is another name you may not have heard of until the combine. McKinnon surprised scouts with a red hot 4.41 second forty yard dash and showed elite lower body explosion with his broad and vertical jumps. Before the combine, McKinnon was considered to be a sixth or seventh round pick, possibly even undrafted, but now, McKinnon has solidified his position as a fifth rounder or possibly even a fourth rounder. A few years of strength training and conditioning and McKinnon could be a name you hear for years to come.
