It wouldn’t be an off-season without some Branden Albert Twitter news. Albert tweeted today about his contract status. Here’s what he had to say.

It isn’t a surprise Albert will be hitting free agency. Kansas City simply doesn’t have much cap room to both sign Albert and make the other moves necessary to fill holes on the roster. John Dorsey said during the combine he has been in contact with Albert’s agent, but that contact may have been to let him know a contract won’t be coming from the Chiefs. Free agency opens up March 11.

Albert made his first Pro Bowl this past season despite missing four games with a knee injury. Last off-season he was handed the franchise tag and then dangled as trade bait for most of March and April. It has been reported the best offer the Chiefs could get for Albert was a third round pick.

Arizona and Miami are two teams expected to make a run at Albert.
