Shayne Skov – 6’2 246lbs – Stanford

Skov is my inside linebacker prospect that you may not have heard of and one of my favorite prospects of the draft. Despite being on an incredible Stanford defense, he manages to stand out with his versatility, being able to stop the run and also being a formidable pass rusher. He can play multiple positions across the line and has a high motor. Although he missed his first game in 2012 due to a suspension following a DUI arrest in the offseason, Skov tallied 80 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, and one pass defended. One of my favorite things about Skov is he seems to step up and make plays in the biggest moments and plays his best in high pressure situations. Most recently, as many of you may know, the Stanford Cardinals took on and beat the Oregon Ducks, one of the most prolific offenses in the NCAA. In that game, Skov had a team leading nine tackles, two tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery that helped seal the win for Stanford. He also had a dominant game against Washington with 14 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. So far in total for 2013, Skov has had 71 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and three passes defended. While many may not know about Skov now, I think by the time draft day rolls around, you will at least have heard his name uttered around the late second round. Personally, I’d take Skov with a second round pick but we’ll see what the professionals have to say.
