Fantasy Update: What Chiefs Should Get the Start

It’s Week 8 in the NFL, Addicts. The trade deadline is rapidly approaching in “real” football as well as fantasy, so if you don’t have the Chiefs players you want now, you’d better start haggling soon. This is who I think you should look at starting or sitting from the Chiefs as they take on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.

Jamaal Charles – RB

Charles is having an MVP season. He has scored at least one touchdown (either on the ground or through the air) in every game this season. He is close to 1,000 yards from scrimmage. He is a fantasy point machine. If you don’t have him, chances are you’re not going to get him now. But if you do, you can count on the 15-20 points a week he brings in.

Dwayne Bowe – WR

Bowe hasn’t put the numbers up yet, but everyone keeps saying he’s going to break out soon as QB Alex Smith gets more comfortable with him. However, as was announced yesterday, Bowe missed practice with a sore groin muscle and is “day-to-day” going into tomorrow’s game. I’d tread lightly with him on your roster and make sure you find out if he’s active before considering starting him.

Donnie Avery – WR

If Bowe is a no-go, Avery slides to the #1 WR slot. We’ve all seen what he can do if given the opportunity, and he could potentially have that kind of game again. If he’s available on your waiver-wire you may want to take a chance and pick him up, if you don’t have a reliable back up for Bowe.

Alex Smith – QB

Smith has never been the guy to give you huge fantasy numbers, but as a fill in for a stud who’s on a bye week, he’s not a horrible option. Smith has faced a passing touchdown drought the past couple of weeks, but did have a rushing score in week seven. If you don’t have a better option, you should give Alex Smith a look this week.

Chiefs D/ST

This defense is salivating at the opportunity to play this stagnant Cleveland Browns offense. Jason Campbell starts at QB this week, and likely be out of sync with his receivers, creating the perfect opportunity for the Chiefs D to strike. Also, it’s been a couple of weeks since the Chiefs have returned a kick or punt to the house. This could be the week for that too.

Ryan Succop – K

This guy doesn’t miss. If you have him, you should start him. If you don’t have him and he’s sitting out as a free agent, you should probably snatch him up. He’s clutch and makes everything. He’s really having a great year.

That’s it, Addicts. Good luck with your fantasy teams this weekend and GO CHIEFS!
