Derrick Thomas left Chiefs Kingdom far too early, but Chiefs fans, his fans and NFL fans in general will be able to relive memories of the former Chiefs great on September, 24th. He’ll be featured on the popular NFL Network Series “A Football Life”.
If you haven’t seen the series, it’s basically an hour-long documentary on a prolific person in the NFL world. The most popular was probably the feature on Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick, but this season may end up toping that.
According to the press release from NFL communications, this season will feature LaDainian Tomlinson, Pat Summerall, Steve Sabol, Warren Sapp and Randall Cunningham among others.
This season will also have a 30 minute “A Football Life: Backstory” program after the show, which will feature “a deeper look into the lives and story of each subject”, per the release.
Thomas was a nine time Pro Bowl linebacker for Kansas City, known for his ability to rush the passer. In 11 NFL seasons, all with the Chiefs, he totaled 126.5 sacks, 41 forced fumbles and 19 fumble recoveries. In the 1990 season, he notched 20 sacks, which is incredible. (Pro-Football-Reference.com)
Tragically, Thomas died of a heart attack in 2000, which came just weeks after he was paralyzed in a car crash. He was only 33 years old.
