Today is a rough day in the NFL, and it’s undoubtedly going to be a rough day in Chiefs Kingdom. This is cut day.
The preseason has ended and teams around the league are mandated to cut their rosters down to 53 players.
This means bad news for many fringe players across the league and the fans who have grown to enjoy watching them throughout the course of the preseason.
Kansas City had to cut 22 players to get to 53. Below is the list of players that are no longer with the Chiefs:
PLAYERS RELEASED
Steven Baker – T
Josh Bellamy – WR
Malcolm Bronson – S
Greg Castillo – S
Kennard Cox – CB
Marcus Dixon – DL
Tommie Draheim – OL
Darin Drakeford – LB
Shaun Draughn – RB
Frankie Hammond Jr. – WR
Demetrius Harris – TE
Tysyn Hartman – DB
Austin Lane – DE
Orie Lemon – LB
Semaj Moody – CB
Toben Opurum – FB
Matt Reynolds – T
Rico Richardson – WR

WAIVED INJURED
Ricky Henry – G
Tony Moeaki – TE
One notable name on here is tight end Tony Moeaki, who was drafted by the Chiefs in third round of the 2010 NFL draft. While he’s shown flashes, catching 80 passes for 1,009 yards and four touchdowns with Kansas City, he’s struggled with injuries. His most recent was a fractured shoulder, which most likely led to him being waived.

Tysyn Hartman and Rico Richardson are two other tough cuts. Hartman, in particular, had a nice preseason as a defensive sub and on special teams, and Richardson caught the game winning touchdown against Pittsburgh.
