The Kansas City Chiefs are on their way to New Orleans but according to Reid Ferrin, five players will be staying behind.

In case you don’t have the roster list in front of you, those players are:

#53 Mike Catapano (LB)

#26 Sanders Commings (S)

#66 Tommie Draheim (C)

#88 Junior Hemingway (WR)

#79 Donald Stephenson (T)

Cap has a strained calf. Commings has been out with a broken collarbone nearly all of camp. He will be out for a few more weeks. Draheim has a concussion. Stephenson has been dealing with a busted finger. It wasn’t anything too serious but he had to have surgery so he is on the shelf.

The big blow here is to Hemingway. The WR apparently has a strained thumb (per Arrowhead Pride) and will have an MRI this week. Junior surprised this editor when he jumped up the Chiefs’ depth chart. He is currently listed as the third WR behind Dwayne Bowe and Dexter McCluster and could be fighting with Devon Wylie for a roster spot.

Hemingway would have likely gotten plenty of playing time versus the Saints but now he will have to hope he can bounce back quickly and be ready for preseason game number two. The only problem is that the longer the preseason goes on, the more the starters will play and the fewer opportunities Hemingway will get .
