The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly signed UFA Bradley McDougald, a free safety from Kansas University.
It appears the Chiefs are addressing the secondary and adding depth at the safety position with the next undrafted free agent signing. Another local athlete, the Jayhawk safety, sent out a tweet announcing his signing with the Chiefs.
Shortly thereafter, in case most folks didn’t understand how he felt about joining the Chiefs as a UFA, he sent a follow up.
McDougald has had quite a successful college career and has been recognized for his achievements. He was named Second Team All-Big 12 by the league’s coaches, Third Team All-Big 12 by Phil Steele Magazine and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the Associated Press. In addition to that, he received an invitation to the Senior Bowl.
While the Jayhawks didn’t have the greatest season in 2012, McDougald finished the year with 92 total tackles and three interceptions.
Again, I like this signing as it adds needed depth at the very back end of the Chiefs’ defensive secondary. Eric Berry will be a starter at the strong safety position for years to come, but Kendrick Lewis still has a huge question mark on his chest as far as I’m concerned. We’ll see if McDougald can help with that.
What do you think of this signing, Addicts? Are you happy to see Bradley McDougald remain in the Kansas City area?
