The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly extended a mini-camp invite to UFA Dayne Crist, a quarterback from the Kansas University Jayhawks.
It appears if the Chiefs have finally found their rookie quarterback. It took all seven rounds of the draft and then some, but Dayne Crist is the first quarterback in this class who head coach, Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey will even talk about.
The news of the mini-camp invite came from Brian Hamilton of the Chicago Tribune’s Twitter feed.
While Crist doesn’t have overwhelming stats, he is a quarterback who will be a camp body (should he get an invitation to camp following the mini-camp) who can compete with incumbent third stringers Ricky Stanzi and Alex Tanney. Teams don’t generally keep four quarterbacks on the roster once the regular season begins, so I would assume there will be fierce competition for that third spot.
The fact that Reid and Dorsey did not address the quarterback position beyond Alex Smith and Chase Daniel until now has many Chiefs fans believing they are satisfied that either Stanzi or Tanney will fill that final roster spot. I guess, if nothing else, Crist adds a little intrigue into that storyline going forward.
What do you think, Addicts? Is Crist the franchise quarterback we’ve been waiting for?
