Chiefs Offered Chris Canty A Contract, According To Report
Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
Former New York Giants defensive lineman Chris Canty was released days ago and while he has had the NFL free agent market largely to himself, he has yet to sign a deal.
That could change today.
Canty has reportedly met with the Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans, Green Bay Packers and today, with the Baltimore Ravens.
According to Albert Breet of NFL Network, Canty has a deal on the table from both the Chiefs and Titans.
KC is also reportedly trying to re-sign former fifth-overall pick DE Glenn Dorsey. There had been reports that the Chiefs and Dorsey were making significant progress towards a deal, however it has been pretty much radio silence on that front ever since.
It would make sense for Canty to sign a deal with someone before free agency starts in just over an hour. Once 4 pm eastern passes, the market will be flooded with other defensive lineman and the teams currently bidding for Canty’s services may begin rescinding their offers, especially if they are able to find a better bargain.
While the Chiefs may have a deal on the table, it may not be what Canty is looking for. If it was, he might have signed it by now. Then again, if the Ravens are able to match what the Chiefs and Titans have offered, it’d be hard to see Canty not opting to join the defending Super Bowl Champions.
Stay tuned. We’ve got just minuted to go.
