Senior Bowl 2013: Chiefs Meet 3 More Prospects

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs are still in Mobile scouting prospects at the 2013 Senior Bowl and this morning we’ve got three more names for you that the team has met with, courtesy of Walter Football.

Let’s get to it:

Zaviar Gooden, LB, Missouri

Missou fans will be familiar with this guy. Being a Big Ten guy myself, I’m hoping some of you folks from the area can leave us some intel on Gooden in the comments.

He is listed at 6-2, 233. NFL Draft Scout projects him to go somewhere in the 4th round. Gooden’s trademark is his speed. He can reportedly run in the 4.3-4.4 range in the 40. He seems to be demonstrating that speed at Senior Bowl practices but his lack of physicality could be a problem.

A linebacker this fast is certainly worth a look. Other than Derrick Johnson, the Chiefs’ linebackers aren’t exactly burners. A prospect like Gooden could be a valuable asset in sub packages and as an occasional speed rusher off the edge.

Here is some tape:

Xavier Nixon, OL, Florida

Nixon played at Florida and stands at 6-6, weighing in at 311. NFL Draft Scout currently ranks him as the 13th best tackle in the draft and projects him to be a fourth round pick. At the Senior Bowl he has played mostly tackle but they have tried him out at guard for some practice snaps.

Vince Williams, LB, Florida State

6-1, 247 pound linebcker Vince Williams played his ball at Florida State. He is rated as the eighth best inside backer in the draft by NFL Draft Scout and is predicted to somewhere in round six.

Here is a quick practice review of Williams from the Senior Bowl, courtesy of CBS Sports:

"2013 Senior Bowl, Tuesday: Vince Williams was second-best Tuesday among the linebackers, though he didn’t show off his skills until the 11-on-11 drills as described above. He didn’t stand out much in the other practice sessions, save for some flashes in edge-rush work and chasing down offensive players. He played on the inside Tuesday, just as he did at Florida State, and he’ll likely find some work there as a third-day pick."

Here is some tape:

The Chiefs certainly need help at MLB. This is one spot I think would be wise for the team to fill in free agency, if possible. KC is in pretty good shape at linebacker so plugging in one more talented veteran could make the unit one of the best in the NFL.
