The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly interviewing former Eagles coach Andy Reid today in Philadelphia but it doesn’t mean he is the only candidate they are interested in.
There is a rumor that they may also be interested in Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton.
Surprisingly, the rumor comes from Horton himself.
Coach Horton has also interviewed with the Cardinals for their head coaching job, as well as with the Cleveland Browns. He met with the Arizona media today following his interview with the team, during which he mentioned that the Chiefs and Chargers could be interested in meeting with him.
"I’ve got an interview with Buffalo this afternoon (Wednesday). And that’s the last one on the book. I’ve heard rumors, not substantiated by me, that Kansas City and San Diego are interested. I don’t know that because I haven’t talked to my agent today."
Horton is one of more unknown but popular candidates on the market. He has been with the Cardinals for two seasons, turning them into one of the better defensive units in the league.
Horton could just be dropping the Chiefs and Chargers in a leverage ploy here but I doubt it. Horton IS in demand and doesn’t need to make up extra suitors. There are seven teams in need of a head coach and Horton has interviews scheduled with three of them.
Still, he is a name to keep an eye on moving forward. If the Chiefs decide not to go with Andy Reid, Horton could be their next call.
