The Kansas City Chiefs are 1-7 and while most folks are already preparing the professional obituary for head coach Romeo Crennel, the veteran coach isn’t giving up without a fight.

Crennel relinquished his duties as defensive coordinator this week, promoting linebackers coach Garry Gibbs. With another coach taking over full control of the defense, Crennel has been turning his attention to the KC offense.

“He’s been in our meetings a lot more this week,” QB Matt Cassel told reporters Wednesday. “I’ve seen him around and that’s been a little bit different from the first half of the season so far.”

This shouldn’t come as a surprise. One of the reasons Crennel backed off his defensive duties was so he could focus more on the team as a whole. Unfortunately for the Chiefs, it is hard to see this move making much of a difference. KC is playing some very undisciplined football these days and Crennel being in meetings probably isn’t going to help the players hold on to the football any better.

Still, you can’t fault Crennel for trying. Unfortunately, it just make be too late.
