Chiefs Cut 14 Players

The Kansas City Chiefs have cut 14 players as part of the NFL’s mandated first-round of roster cuts. The Chiefs had to get their roster from 90 players to 75. Since the Chiefs only had 89 players on the active roster, they only needed to cut 14.

There aren’t many surprises here. Check it:

Shane Bannon FB 6-3 245 1 Yale

Tim Biere TE 6-4 260 R Kansas

Caleb Campbell LB 6-2 237 1 Army

Justin Cheadle OL 6-2 290 R California

Dominique Ellis DB 5-11 195 R South Carolina State

Jean Fanor DB 6-1 200 R Bethune-Cookman

Dexter Heyman LB 6-3 238 R Louisville

Cam Holland OL 6-2 320 R North Carolina

Jeremy Horne WR 6-2 193 2 Massachusetts

Ethan Johnson DE 6-4 300 R Notre Dame

Brandon Kinnie WR 6-3 220 R Nebraska

Zeke Markshausen WR 5-11 185 1 Northwestern

Matt Szymanski K 6-1 196 R SMU

Aaron Weaver WR 6-2 220 R Syracuse

Notable is FB Shane Bannon out of Yale. Bannon has never really caught on with the Chiefs and with Peyton Hillis on the roster, a FB really isn’t necessary. The Chiefs are also very deep at RB and so they may need the extra spot to keep some of the lower string guys.

The kicker, Szymanski, was never going to make the team but he showed off a really strong leg in the preseason. I wouldn’t be surprised to see someone pick him up. The Chiefs could also keep him on speed dial should anything happen to one of their kickers.

What do you think, Addicts? Are you surprised by any of these cuts?
