KC Chiefs Training Camp Notes: Gentry Out, Bowe Update

The Kansas City Chiefs are set to begin their 5th day of training camp today and we’ve got some odds and ends to update you on.

-Free agent FB Taylor Gentry has been given his walking papers after failing to pass a physical. That leaves only 2011 7th round draft pick Shane Bannon at the FB position.

-The abrupt retiring of Tony Ugoh yesterday means that the Chiefs now have two roster spots available. They may look to fill those with some competition at FB, S or T.

-Junior Hemingway was carted off the field yesterday. The good news is it doesn’t look serious. Hemingway suffered from a groin injury and will rest until he is good to go again.

-LB Brandon Siler was also out of practice yesterday after suffering from an ankle injury. According to reports he is moving well today.

-Lastly, Dwayne Bowe still isn’t in camp but according to Jim Trotter of SI.com, the Chiefs expect Bowe to show before the start of the regular season.

"No one is fretting the absence of wide receiver Dwayne Bowe, partly because it’s wasted energy and partly because he’s expected to join them before the season kicks off.Bowe, who received the franchise tag in the offseason after leading the team in catches and receiving yards for the third consecutive year, has yet to sign his one-year, $9.5 million tender; consequently, the team can’t fine him for staying away. I’m told, however, there is virtually no chance that Bowe will pass up game checks that amount to $559,000 a week. He skipped offseason workouts while hoping to land a multi-year deal, so he could be behind when he finally reports. The Chiefs have a new offensive coordinator and new playbook; how long that will take him to get up to speed — and how severely his absence might limit his effectiveness — are questions no one can answer."
