Donald Washington Arrested

Kansas City Chiefs DB Donald Washington was arrested according to 97.9 XFM in Effingham, Ill.

NFL.com has reported that Washington was charged with driving under the influence of drugs.

Washington was apparently stopped for speeding on I-70. The officer then detected the smell of marijuana. A search of the car turned up a small amount of weed in a backpack in Washington’s trunk.

Donnie Wash has been a pretty big disappointment since entering the NFL as a part of Scott Pioli’s inaugural draft class. The Chiefs have tried to keep him off the field as much as possible recently. He logged only 313 snaps last season and received a -8.5 grade from Pro Football Focus. The only thing worse than his pass coverage (-3.7) was his run defense (-4.6). He also missed five tackles on the year.

This has been a very bad couple of weeks for the NFL from a PR standpoint. It seems almost every day there is another NFL player getting arrested. I was just recently thinking about how it was a feather in Scott Pioli’s cap that the Chiefs players have been doing such a good job of staying out of trouble the last few years. Still, Pioli can’t babysit his players at every second.

Washington was likely going to have to fight for a roster spot this season. His saving grace might have been KC’s lack of depth at the safety position but now I’m not so sure.

Don’t be surprised if Washington soon finds himself looking for work.
