Chiefs Select CB DeQuan Menzie In Round 5

The Kansas City Chiefs have selected DeQuan Menzie, CB out of Alabama, in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL draft.

Menzie stands at 5-11 and weighs in at 202. He has a rather slow 40 time at 4.74 but his former coach at Alabama, Nick Saban, thinks Menzie’s speed is fine when he’s on the field. Here is what he had to say about Menzie after the school’s pro day.

"I don’t know, I didn’t hear all the times that the guys ran but I think what you look at is, if you look at all of our film from last year, and you were a scout, you would say that this guy never looks speed-deficient on the field. He runs, he covers people, the same kind of people you are going to cover at the next level, very good nickel-back, what we call star, good blitzer, good tackler, very instinctive. He could probably be a cover safety at the next level, so because he is a good football player. I think people are going to find ways to use him at the next level."

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Chiefs are looking at Menzie as possible safety depth. The team certainly needs help in that department, unless you want Sabby Piscitelli back.
