Romeo Crennel Making The Interview Rounds

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Cennel stopped by 810 Sports Radio this afternoon to chat with Soren Petro.

Cennel didn’t have a ton of interesting stuff to say but he did mention that he hopes to have his coaching staff finalized “real soon.”

We know that Crennel was still interviewing candidates for the offensive coordinator position as recently as yesterday when he spoke with former Chiefs offensive coordinator Al Saunders.

Crennel was also asked about the status of KC’s two big free agents to be, Dwayne Bowe and Brandon Carr.

“We would like to keep those guys in house,” Crennel said. “We know that the FA process is a difficult thing at times.”

“Hopefully they will want to stay and we’re going to do everything we can to try to keep them. But you just never know. But they are the first priority.”

If I had to guess, I’d say Bowe wants to test the free agent waters and that Carr wants to stay but wants to get paid. Whether or not the Chiefs will oblige either of them remains to be seen. They’ve got about six weeks.

When asked about the QB position, Crennel admitted that he would like to have Kyle Orton back but with Orton being an unrestricted free agent, it might not be possible. This is pretty much the same song Crennel has been singing since he was hired as head coach.

Nothing earth shattering but it is good to know that Crennel is closing in on a coordinator. I am guessing we’ll find out the answer to all of these questions early next week, after the Super Bowl.
