A lot of things needed to fall right for the Kansas City Chiefs to beat the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and a lot will need to go right for them to make the playoffs but after a roller coaster season, KC fans have to be believing that anything is possible.
A loss to the Packers would have eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention. Their record already has them out of the wild card race and so their only road to the playoffs is by repeating as AFC West Champions.
To make up ground, the Chiefs needed to beat the Packers but they also needed the Denver Broncos to lose. Both those things happened on Sunday and so now the Chiefs’ road to the postseason is a clear one.
Find out what needs to happen over the next two weeks for the Chiefs to make the playoffs, after the jump.
The current AFC West standings are as follows:
Denver 8-6
Oakland 7-7
San Diego 7-7
Kansas City 6-8
The Chiefs are in a tight spot and they are going to need some outside help but thanks to games against the Raiders and Broncos still looming, the KC can still catch up.
Here is what needs to happen:
The Chiefs must win their next two games vs. Oakland and Denver
The Broncos must lose next week in Buffalo. If they win, the Chiefs are toast.
The Chargers must lose to either the Lions or the Raiders (both on the road) in the final two weeks.
In fact, to put it more simply, if the Chiefs, Bills and Lions all win next week, the Chiefs will play the Denver Broncos for the AFC West title at Mile High in week 17.
Improbable? Sure.
But so was beating the Packers.
