The Kansas City Chiefs spent a lot of time at the bottom of various Power Rankings lists recently but in 2010, they finally earned some respect by winning ten games and capturing the AFC West Championship.
Yeah, most of that good will is gone.
Following four preseason performances that inspired hope only in Chargers, Broncos and Raiders fans, the Chiefs have slid in ESPN.com’s weekly NFL Power Rankings. The were 14th in the offseason Power Ranks and now slide to 18th for Week One of the 2011 NFL season.
Frankly, I don’t blame the “experts” for being a bit weary of the Chiefs. They got stomped in their last two games last season and looked dreadful in their first four in 2011. Even winning ten games won’t win you many points when you have six bad games in a row.
A bit more after the jump.
Still, the Chiefs are talented and most of the league knows it. If they come out and put the smackdown on the Bills Sunday, they will likely see a nice boost in the next set of rankings.
Until then, however, the Chiefs have something to prove. But I kind of like it that way.
Other AFC West Ranks: Chargers (10) Raiders (22) Broncos (27).
