Rams Leading Bumbling Chiefs 14-3 At Half

The St. Louis Rams are spanking the Kansas City Chiefs 4-3 after two quarters of play.

The Chiefs defense gave up two straight touchdowns before Derrick Johnson intercepted a Sam Bradford pass to set the offense up in the red zone. The Chiefs offense, however, failed to get anything going. A Jamaal Charles TD run was called back due to a holding penalty (dubios) on Rodney Hudson. The Chiefs were forced to settle for a FG.

My quick thoughts on the first half, after the jump

-KC’s run defense looked really inconsistent. They had some nice penetration and some stops in the backfield and they also gave up a few big runs.

-The secondary struggled most of the first half.

-Rodney Hudson reeled in his third sack of the preseason. This kid could demand a starting spot.

-The Chiefs aren’t running a whole lot. They attempted only six rushes the entire first half. The rest of the plays were 19 passes.

-Todd Haley oddly pulled Matt Cassel for a series in the second quarter. He put in Tyler Palko, who went 4 of 6 for 37 yards. Then he put Cassel back in.

-Barry Richardson is terrible.

-Jerheme Urban apparently caught two balls. My feed went down on both occasions. I think everyone is lying to me.

-The Chiefs defense settled down a bit later in the first half but then again, the Rams had pulled Steven Jackson.

-The Chiefs have a BIG problem on special teams. Every one of their punts were nearly blocked. The same thing happened last week. Dustin Colquitt, however, is playing great.

First half grade: F

The Chiefs had a few nice plays by Derrick Johnson and Justin Houston but on the whole they do not look ready for prime time.
