Casey Wiegmann Plans To Play One More Year

Casey Wiegmann could be coming back to Kansas City.

According to Bill Williamson of ESPN.com’s AFC West blog, Wiegmann’s agent Joe Linta told Williamson that Wiegmann wants to play another season and that he would like to return to KC should a contract be able to be worked out.

According to Williamson, Linta said Wiegmann is in the best shape of his life. Then again, that is what agents always say because their job is to sell their client.

Look, I am all for Wiegmann coming back. I just hope the Chiefs are realistic about how they handle him. Casey will turn 38 on Wednesday. By NFL standards, he already has a foot in the grave.

The Chiefs drafted a potential center in Rodney Hudson. While I don’t want Wiegmann holding the youngster back, Hudson can likely learn a lot by shadowing Wiegmann for a little while. Wiegmann’s play is clearly slipping but he wasn’t terrible last year. Cances are Hudson would not be able to step in and play much better as a rookie. I could see a situation where Wiegmann starts the season and Hudson eventually takes over.

The Chiefs would be wise to bring Wiegmann back. He can teach Hudson the zone blocking scheme and give the team a little bit more depth along the offensive line.

What do you think Addicts? Should Wiegmann hang them up now? Do you want a rookie starting the season at center? Sound off.
