Scouting The Next Chiefs: East West Shrine Game Today

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs are down in Orlando, Florida today for the annual East West Shrine game to scout for players that can improve their team.

The East West Shrine game is the first of two college all-star games coming up in the next couple of weeks. Today’s game won’t feature major starts. The East West game is more for guys at the back end of the draft and who may be undrafted free agents who are trying to get more exposure to NFL scouts. Most, if not all of these guys, will not receive invitations to the scouting combine so this is their chance to make an impression.

Still, today’s game is important. While most of these players will never make it in the NFL there is always a diamond in the rough. Last year, WR Blair White caught the eye of the Indianapolis Colts. They did not draft him but signed the WR as an undrafted free agent. White finished his rookie season with 36 receptions for 355 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Other players do get drafted. Emmanuel Sanders played last year and was taken in the 3rd round by the Pittsburgh Steelers and TE Andrew Quarless wad taken in the 5th round by the Green Bay Packers.

The game kicks off at 4PM and is most unfortunately on NFL Network so a good portion of you (including me) won’t be able to watch it.
