The Kansas City Chiefs had a very good year in 2010 and so did Arrowhead Addict.
Each moth of 2010, AA got more visits and page views than it did in the same month the year before. We broke our monthly traffic record 3 times in 2010, including 2 months in a row to end the year. 2011 has started off well too as we have gotten over a quarter of our 2010 January traffic in just 21/2 days!
As such, I wanted to say thank you for reading and announce some changes we’ll be experiencing around here in the coming year.
First, I want to draw your attention to our new commenter leader board on the right side of the screen. Our leader board resets every year so now is the time to get your username on the main page as one of Arrowhead Addict’s most prolific commenters. We love our regulars around here. Heck, we like some of them so much we end up hiring them to write for the site. Ehud (now known as staff writer Adam) was brought on board at the end of last year.
Here is a look at the early standings of the AA Commenter Leader Board:
- Warpaint Denny (22)
- Trey @ Washington (16)
- TrappedInDonkeyland (13)
- Nick Rodgers (12)
- chiefsfanatic (10)
- jeremyriversideca (8)
- Chief Big Bear (5)
- Danny W (5)
- KCCHIEFSADDICT (5)
- uncle duke (5)
Warpaint Denny is leading the way and is even out commenting two staff members, Nick and Jeremy. Good work Denny!
Your comments add so much to AA so the leader board is a great way to reward loyalty. To get your handle on the leader board you have to be registered with Fansided.
Thus I have decided that once the Chiefs season ends, hopefully after the Super Bowl, to make registration for Fansided and Arrowhead Addict mandatory. Explanation is after the jump.
With AA growing at a rapid rate we are getting a lot of new faces, both from Chiefs fans and from fans from other sites. To help keep the comments on this site thoughtful and free from trolls, I want to make registration mandatory. That will help chase away some lazy trouble makers and it will also make it easier for us to moderate the site. Currently a reader can leave a fake email address and comment. That will no longer be the case. If folks want to comment here, they will have to provide a valid email address. That will enable us to monitor the comments and issue warnings for bad behavior. As it stands now, if someone leaves a fake email address and acts like an ass, our only recourse is to ban their IP address.
I am going to wait until after the Chiefs season is officially over to make the change but I suggest if you aren’t registered you sign up now. By registering you will also be able to comment on all of the Fansided blogs now and in the future.
Lastly, we will be hiring official Arrowhead Addict moderators this year. These positions will go to interested AA regulars who set a good example of how to behave in the comment section and who we can trust to moderate the discussion. Moderators will have the ability to delete comments and issue warnings to those who misbehave. They will also keep track of warnings and will recommend readers to be banned should they run out of chances. We will only ban readers in the most extreme circumstances.
If you are interested in being a moderator please indicate your interest in the comments of this post so we can get an idea of who is interested. We will post about a more formal selection process in a few weeks.
Thanks again everyone for reading and be sure to get registered if you haven’t already.
