Chiefs announced that they have signed veteran  linebacker Mark Simoneau today.

To make room for Simoneau the team released recent signee DT Atiyyah Ellison.

The team also confirmed our earlier report that they signed the recently released Jeremy Horne to the practice squad.

Here is a bit on Simoneau (pronounced SIM-in-no) from KCChiefs.com:

"Simoneau (6-0, 245) has played in 123 games (68 starts) with New Orleans (2006-07), Philadelphia (2003-05) and Atlanta (2000-02). He has produced 525 tackles (326 solo), 7.0 sacks, one interception, 12 passes defensed, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and 51 special teams tackles. The Phillipsburg, Kansas native has seen action in seven postseason contests (four starts), registering 30 tackles (20 solo) and one pass defensed. Simoneau originally entered the NFL as a third-round selection (67th overall) of Atlanta in 2000."

Simoneau finished his career at Kansas State ranked third in school history with 400 tackles and 48.0 tackles for loss. He was a USA Today honorable mention selection as a running back and linebacker at Smith Center High School in Smith Center, Kansas.

Simoneau is likely being brought in for depth and special teams play. The Chiefs coverage unit has been a bit sketchy lately so hopefully he will help.
