My Chief Concerns: If You Can’t Be With The One You Love, Love The One You’re With

Tony Gonzalez is the greatest tight end to ever play the game.  That is a fact.  No one can dispute it.  We have loved Gonzo for so long that it seems unusual to not have him around. As Chief fans we will always adore him, but it is absolutely ok to move on.

It cannot be ignored any longer.  There is a new Tony in town and he is quite promising.  Despite what some of you might think it is not blasphemy to point out the following:

Tony Moeaki is on pace to shatter Tony Gonzalez’s rookies stats.

More after the jump…

Tony Gonzalez’ Rookie Year after the first 6 games games:

7 receptions, 110 yards, 1 TDs.

Tony Moeaki’s Rookie Year after the first 6 games:

21 receptions, 236 yards, 2 TDs

In fact, in Tony Gonzalez’s Rookie Year, (1997), he played in16 games, had 33 catches, had 368 receiving yards, and two (2) total touchdowns.  So, far Tony Moeaki has already reached two (2) total touchdowns for the season, is twelve (12) catches shy of Gonzo’s 33 receptions, and is only 136 yards away from breaking Gonzo’s rookie receiving record; with ten (10) more games to play.  Tony Moeaki is currently on pace for 56 catches, 629 yards, and 5 TDs.  Does anyone here think he won’t make it?

Leave your Gonzo Guilt at the door.  It is time to move on from our beloved “Gonzo” and embrace, encourage and adore the “Big Moe”.

Moeaki needs a nickname.  Let’s hear your suggestions, Addicts.  Is “Big Moe” good or do you have something better?
