Chiefs VS. Jaguars: Prediction Thread

facebooktwitterreddit

The Kansas City Chiefs will be taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars today at Arrowhead Stadium.

While optimism is high that the Chiefs should be able to handle a wounded Jaguars team at home, Todd Haley’s players had better not get too comfortable.

The Chiefs haven’t won a football game in a month. Their last victory came on September 26th over the San Fransisco 49ers. It was also the last time the Chiefs were at Arrowhead.

As we approach kickoff, it is time for our weekly prediction thread. After the jump, I’ll offer up five predictions for today’s game.

1. Maurice Jones-Drew will not break 100 yards

No disrespect to MJD but the Chiefs haven’t allowed a 100-yard rusher all season. With the Jag’s deficiencies at QB this week I look for the Chiefs to key in on stopping the run. MJD might get to around 90 yards but I think he is in for a frustrating day.

2. Matt Cassel will throw an interception

Cassel has been doing a good job of taking care of the football this season. The Chiefs QB has 7 touchdown passes to 3 interceptions through five games. He hasn’t thrown a pick the last two weeks in Indianapolis and Houston. Odds tell me that streak ends today.

3. Javier Arenas will return a kick for a touchdown

I am shocked Arenas hasn’t taken one back yet this season. He has been doing a good job on his returns but he hasn’t been able to break one lose yet. A part of the reason might be because he is tired from all the snaps he has been playing on defense. The Jags aren’t likely to be running nearly as many 3 WR sets as the Colts and Texans have the last two weeks. Arenas should have his freshest legs of the year and I think today is the game he breaks one for a score.

4. Dexter McCluster will have a big day

The Jags, like everyone else before them, are going to come out and try to stop the run. The Chiefs will likely use a lot of screens and swing passes early to back Jacksonville up a bit. McCluster has been rather quiet the last couple of weeks and he is just too talented to go three games in a row without making an impact. Look for him to get involved today.

5. The Chiefs win going away

The Chiefs are going to be fired up to return home after two straight road losses. They are significantly more talented than the Jaguars are at this point and there is no reason they shouldn’t break this game wide open by mid-way through the 3rd quarter. The only way the Chiefs lose this game is if they beat themselves. I just think they are too well coached to let that happen.

Chiefs 31, Jaguars 10
