Chiefs Show Improvement In Loss To Bucs

The Chiefs showed great improvement tonight against the Bucs. The Chiefs pretty much pulled all of their starters after the first half and with Croyle sitting out, played the entire second half with their 3rd string QB.

I will have a full wrap up tomorrow but for now, here are 5 things I noticed:

1. The offensive line played very well. They opened up holes in the running game and did a good job on their blitz pickups which is encouraging because the Bucs blitzed a lot.

2. The offense looked sharp. Matt Cassel showed pretty good awareness and he moved the offense up and down the field with a mix of bootlegs, draws, slants and fades. He spread the ball around which means he has more reliable options and he is making use of them.

3. The run defense was better with Belcher and Johnson at MLB.

4. Andy Studebaker is coming along nicely. He did a good job coming in for the nickel defense.

5. The new coordinators did a nice job with their play calling. Weiss really mixed it up on offense and Crennel showed some really nice looks on the early defensive series’. Had Flowers not missed a tackle that led to 7 points, the Chiefs would have entered the half with the lead.

We’ll be back tomorrow with a more in depth recap. Night everyone and GO CHIEFS!
