It seems like training camp just started but the pre-season is about to get underway! The Chiefs will take the field against Tony Gonzalez and the Atlanta Falcons in just 10 days! That is nearly single digits!
The Chiefs will have a number of practices to get ready for Atlanta. We likely won’t see a ton of playing time from the starters in that first game. Teams usually start out slow, only playing their starters for a drive or two in the first game. The starters usually see increased time in game 2 and in game 3, they often play in to the 3rd quarter. The last preseason game is usually a showcase for the “walking dead,” or the guys who are about to be cut. It usually features some pretty horrid football.
Still, I wouldn’t rule out the Chiefs starters playing a drive or two just to stay sharp. With a lot of rookies looking at significant playing time, Todd Haley may want to get his guys all the experience he can before Monday Night Football.
If 10 days sounds like an eternity to you, don’t worry. There are some opportunities to get your NFL fix before the Chiefs go to Atlanta.
