Broncos Taking A Hardline With Dumervil

facebooktwitterreddit

At this rate, the other AFC West teams will be so depleted of talent the Chiefs might just win the division by default.

We’ve been telling you the last couple of days that Charger players Marcus McNeil, Vincent Jackson and possibly Shawn Merriman are considering sitting out part or all of the season if they don’t get new deals.

Well, Denver has a restricted free agent of their own in Elvis Dumervil and he is also looking for a new deal.

From Pro Football Talk:

"Citing a source with the NFL Players Association, the Denver Post reports that the Broncos have threatened to reduce unsigned restricted free agent Elvis Dumervil‘s tender offer if he doesn’t sign the team’s initial one-year proposal by Monday.Dumervil is currently wearing a first- and third-round tender that would pay him $3.168 million in 2010.  He would prefer a long-term contract, and has made a good faith gesture by practicing with the team on an injury waiver during negotiations.  Dumervil led the NFL in sacks last season, is only 26 years old, and by all accounts is a quality citizen.  He fully intends to participate in Denver’s minicamp this weekend."

I will tell you, if Jarrad Page sitting out meant no McNeil, Jackson, Merriman or Dumervil, I’d say bye bye to Page in a heartbeat. If this is how it plays out, our of all the teams the Chiefs will be coming out ahead.
