AA Evening Post: Celebrating Trent Green

facebooktwitterreddit

Earlier today, we brought you the news that the Bears and Mike Martz were trying to coax former Chiefs QB Trent Green out of retirement.

The story got be to thinking about Trent and all he did for KC while he played for the Chiefs. Trent was a fantastic leader and he was one hell of a QB. Aside from the great Lenny Dawson, Trent Green was far and away the best QB the Chiefs have had in their rich history.

A lot of people still aren’t sure if Matt Cassel can be the guy in KC and rightfully so. Still, remember that Trent Green didn’t have a great first season in Kansas City either despite having arguably more weapons at his disposal than Cassel had in 2009.

More and Trent Green highlights, after the jump.

In his first go round with the Chiefs, Green threw 3,783 yards and 17 touchdowns, but also threw 24 picks. Matt Cassel threw for 2, 924 yards with 16 TD’s and 16 interceptions. Green is proof positive that a turbulent first year is not necessarily a sign of future failure.

It wasn’t until 2 years later when Green had his breakout year, throwing for over 4 thousand yards, a feat he would repeat 2 more times. Only a handful of QB’s have ever thrown for 4 thousand yards in 3 consecutive seasons. Green joined Drew Bledsoe, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, Tom Brady and Warren Moon in a very exclusive club.

I was thinking about how Trent left the team and how he never really got the Arrowhead sendoff he deserved. Tonight, lets celebrate Trent Green and talk about our favorite Trent Green led Chiefs victories.
