Corey Mays Hires New Agent
Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal is reporting that Chiefs LB, Corey Mays has signed with Priority Sports.
Mays came to the Chiefs from the Bengals where he played a very limited role. His hard work and willingness to do things the way Haley wanted helped him to unseat Derrick Johnson to obtain the other starting LB position opposite Williams.
Still, while the effort may have been there, the production was not. Mays was often out of position and while he racked up a lot of tackles, he didn’t make any big plays for the Chiefs. He was also atrocious in coverage.
My guess, is that he thinks because he started for an entire year that he deserves starters money and his old agent wasn’t getting it done.
I like Mays and I like his effort and I think he would be a fantastic backup but I don’t want him on the field starting again for the Chiefs this year. He is too much of a liability and that is probably why the Chiefs don’t want to pay him.
I have always said that if DJ is on board with the program and is doing things the way Haley wants him to, he should start. Even if he is just as inconsistent as Mays, he still has the ability to make the big play that can swing a game in KC’s favor. Mays doesn’t have the ability to make up for his mistakes. Johnson does.
Start DJ.
Thanks to Arrowhead Pride for the tip.
