The Chiefs have not been seen on prime time television since Thanksgiving Day, 2006. Jake Plummer was still the Donkey QB for that game. Wow.
Well, the Chiefs long drought of nationally televised games may be coming to an end. At least Josh Looney from KCChiefs.com thinks so.
"But there’s a wild card for next season that gives the Chiefs an edge, a historic edge. That wildcard is The New Arrowhead. The NFL schedulers have historically been generous with the national spotlight to franchise’s unveiling a new or renovated stadium. Since 2000, 14 teams have opened a new or renovated stadium. Ten of those 14 teams went on to debut their stadiums in prime time national television during their first or second home contest."
I could see this happening, especially if the Chiefs continue to make solid moves in the offseason. The better it appears the Chiefs will be next season the greater their chances of getting a prime time slot. Given their recent history of terrible records, I doubt they will be given any more than one PT game.
However, as we know, the NFL has recently instituted the flex scheduling during the 2nd half of the season, so they can feature more exciting and relevant matchups. Even if the Chiefs are snubbed by the schedule makers again, they have a chance to help their own cause by simply getting off to a fast start and putting themselves in the playoff hunt.
What do you think, Addicts? Will prime time football return to KC this season or should we start clearing our schedules for Monday’s at noon?
