Giants release Antonio Pierce

Yeah.

All told, I think he’d fit here. Pioli has shown a penchant for veteran linebackers with decorated histories. He did it in New England with regularity, and he did it last year when he brought a bargain-bin Zach Thomas in. Pierce is 31. Probably has a few more years left to be a poor man’s version of himself. Could be a solid veteran addition to start alongside DJ.

I’ve never been on the Rolando McClain bandwagon — I think he’s going to be a very good ILB, but I don’t see ILB as worth a Top 10 pick. My opinion is that ILB is easier to find and is one of the easier conversions to the NFL, so we shouldn’t spend a pick on it this year and focus on tougher positions to convert, like passrushers.

Picking up Pierce would do us well to keep us from dropping the #5 on a linebacker who isn’t a passrusher. He’s injury-prone enough that there won’t be a huge market for him.

Pick him up or not?
