Report: Chiefs Hire Crennel, Pendergast Out

Looks like it is official. Various people are reporting that the Chiefs have hired Romeo Crennel to be their new defensive coordinator. and that Clancy Pendergast is out.

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with Romeo Crennel to become defensive coordinator, according to a league source.

"The Chiefs are in the process of firing current defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast, according to a source, and Crennel will join the team following the Super Bowl, when he is free from existing commitments with the Cleveland Browns.Crennel, former head coach in Cleveland, will retain linebackers coach Gary Gibbs, but other staff changes are coming. Defensive line coach Tim Krumrie was already let go last week."

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Crennel will not officially take over for a couple of weeks.

"Crennel will not start work for a couple of weeks because of a prior commitment — he’ll be the head coach of the East Team in the East-West college football all-star game on Jan. 23 in Orlando, Fla."
