Haley’s End of Year Press Conferance Report

facebooktwitterreddit

Todd Haley gave his end of the year press conference. There was nothing too earth shattering here but there were some interesting bits of information. I took notes the best I could while at my day job here. Some of this will be paraphrasing. Anyway, if you missed the broadcast this should hold you over until the video and transcript are available. Recap is after the jump.

On hiring of new staff:

“Staff is my decision.”

“I’ll do everything in my power to make this team and operations better.”

On Charlie Weis:

“Charlie is a is a friend. We shared 3 years in a room as big as that corner.”

Haley went on to say that Weis coaches a system that is very close to the offense the Chiefs currently run.

“Charlie would allow us to run the offense we currently run if he is in the mix.”

When pressed on if he had talked to Weis about the job:

“Private conversations will stay private…I will do everything in my power to get the best and brightest football minds to help us. Charley is a bright mind.”

On naming some player he feels are part of the teams core:

Haley was hesitant to pick out certain players for fear of leaving anyone out. He emphasized that this was just a sample. Here are some of the names he threw out:

Matt Cassel

Jamaal Charles

Tamba Hali- “Overcame being put in a difficult position.” (His position change)

Quentin Lawrence- “Ready to make an impact.”

Croyle- “Critical guy for us.”

Brandon Albert

Derrick Johnson-“Another guy I think has a chance to help us moving forward…has really made strides. Handled a difficult year well. I spent some time with Derrick. That will remain private. I hope what he has learned will pay off for him and us.”

On Romeo Crennel:

When asked if he had had any conversations with Romeo Haley said no. He also indicated that Pioli had not talked to him either.

Couple of interesting things. Sounded like Weis may be on the way, Romeo may not be on the way. Sounded like DJ may stay. Haley confirmed Cassel is the man and picked out a few players we will likely see back next season.

We’ll have more for you later.
