The Kansas City Chiefs have released a young running back who had lingered on the roster for a bit in Darrin Reaves.

The Kansas City Chiefs have officially released running back Darrin Reaves from the roster with “an injury settlement,” per Terez Paylor of the Kansas City Star.

Reaves has been with the Chiefs since 2015, staving off competition to remain on the fringes of the roster for the last two years. That’s quite an accomplishment itself and reason that some people believed that given enough experience, Reaves might break through with a real opportunity to play. However, those days are clearly over.

Reaves first came to the Chiefs after being released by the Carolina Panthers in the summer of 2015. He entered the league with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent. In his NFL career, he’s only registered official action in six total games, all with the Panthers during his rookie season. He had 31 rushes for 78 yards and another 5 catches for 31 receiving yards for Carolina.

Reaves’ release leaves the Chiefs with veterans Spencer Ware, Charcandrick West, C.J. Spiller and the newly signed Kelvin Taylor (son of former NFL RB Fred Taylor) along with rookie Kareem Hunt competing for reps in training camp and order on the depth chart. So far, the Chiefs have yet to add a running back among their undrafted free agents, but perhaps that changes here as well.
