The latest contributor to Arrowhead Addict brings objectivity to Chiefs coverage.
As the newest contributor to Arrowhead Addict, I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to Chiefs Kingdom.
I originally come from St. Charles, Missouri, which is a suburb that is about 45 minutes west of downtown St. Louis. Yes, I did grow up as a Rams fan and I still thoroughly enjoy Cardinal baseball. If you hate me for that, I understand.
I came to Kansas City a few years ago to begin my undergraduate education career at Rockhurst University. I’ve always admired how passionate the people of Kansas City are for their Chiefs football and after being around town for a while, it’s been neat to see that passion first-hand.
I have a passion for sports writing and I believe joining the Arrowhead Addict team is a great opportunity. I pride myself in having an objective view when it comes to sports talk. So, if you’re looking for a homer view, I’m not sure I can do that. I will admit, though, I’ve hopped on the Chiefs bandwagon and am hoping for an enjoyable rest of the season.
Before we really get going with the football talk, here are a few of my early thoughts on the Chiefs:
- The Chiefs are, at best, a solid team right now. Are they a playoff team? It’s still possible, even after the debacle in Pittsburgh Sunday. But I’m not sure they’re at that point right now.
- Alex Smith is, at best, an above-average quarterback right now. I don’t think he’ll ever rise above that, though. So far in 2016, I think most would agree he ranks in the bottom 20 of NFL quarterbacks.
- Prior to this season, many thought the offense was going to carry this team, but that has yet to be the case. The defense is going to have to be better than people were expecting the rest of the way.
- The return of Jamaal Charles could push this team to the next level. But Charles is aging, let’s see what sort of consistent play he can put together.
Those are preliminary and basic thoughts of the Chiefs so far in 2016. I’ll definitely delve into more as the season progresses.
I appreciate the warm welcome to Arrowhead Addict. This site has a great reputation, and it’s an honor to become a part of it. Please consider reaching out to me on the website, along with my Twitter and Facebook pages so we can talk some football.
